Welcome to Day 25 of 30 Days To Your Financial Freedom Challenge!

During any type of financial downturn, it’s a good time to get published. Not only will you make money from the book directly, but the book itself can be an entry point into your product and marketing funnel, thus enabling you to boost your income after book purchases too.

Before you balk at self-publishing, understand that authors are making a lot of money via self-publishing. Some authors on Amazon KDP are making upward of $40K per month! Here’s the thing, if one person can do it, so can you. Self-publishing is not about getting prestigious recognition from a big publishing house. It’s about getting the information to your audience and making money.

What’s more, you can publish either fiction or non-fiction and make great money. In fact, you’ll make more per book sale via Amazon Kindle than you will make if you work with an agent and publisher unless you happen to already be rich and famous. While stories abound about the horrible, terrible world of self-publishing, trust me, stories also abound of the cutthroat publishing business.

Did you know that some publishing houses buy books with no plans whatsoever to market the book? Unless you’re already famous and your book is particularly juicy due to that, most publishing houses will do nothing for you, and you also won’t make any money.

How To Write Your Book

To get started writing for Amazon Kindle, understand that you still need:

Step #1 Write Your Manuscript

The first step is obvios sit down and write your book. But don’t think you can publish books with lots of mistakes and problems without getting called on it just because it’s self-publishing.

If you are a Blogger or service provider and are having trouble with a topic idea for your book you may want to check out this resource How To Repurpose Your Content Into A Book. They key is writing a book that your audience will respond to so utilizing some of your most popular content to write a book is a good place to start.

Step #2 Properly Formatting Your Manuscript (Don’t skip this step!!)

Amazon Kindle has directions that you need to follow for formatting your book that works with their system. You have no choice but to do it their way.

Step #3 Creating A Cover For Your Book

Pay a graphic designer to create your book cover if you’re not well versed in this process. You want the cover to draw attention to your book as a thumbnail but then also look great full size.

Step #4 Gain An Understanding of Technical Matters

This is more of a pro tip but when you set up your book, you’ll need to understand how search engine optimization helps sell your book and the tricks of the trade. Most of this you can learn in the KDP community. Learn more about this below.

Ready To Publish?

Now that your book is ready to publish you have just a couple more steps to complete.

Step #1 Sign Up for An Amazon KDP Account

This is free. You’ll have to use your real name and information. You can use Pen Names within this one account once it’s all set up. You’ll need your Tax ID and other information to get started.

Step #2 Follow the Prompts

Once you’ve set up your account, you can just follow the prompts to upload your book, create your title, subtitle (good for SEO), author information, and so forth. You’ll also want to enter a book description and keywords. The system will take you through each area.

All of them are important, so if they offer the section, you’ll need to ensure that you enter the information needed. You’ll end up with the book uploaded along with the cover and everything else. Then you’ll just have to wait about 48 to 72 hours for approval. If you’ve done everything right, followed all the directions, and minded the terms of service, you’ll be set to go.

Step #3 Market Your Book (Most Important Step!!)

Finally, once your book is published, you should start marketing your book. The truth is, if you start marketing it before you publish it, you’ll make more sales starting on day one. But some people do nothing but write and upload books and make a small income since Amazon is the main book market today. Royalties are paid 60 days after earned and are deposited monthly into your account as you set it up.
