Welcome to Day 27 of the Crafting Your Content Marketing Strategy Challenge!

The most fun thing about online marketing is that there really isn’t a lot of need to worry too much about your competition. In fact, your competition can help build your business if you know how to do it. Try to start thinking of your competition as someone to complement instead of someone to destroy, and you’ll be glad you did.

Start an Affiliate Program

When you start an affiliate program, you must create more content for it. You’ll need product training information, cut and paste emails for marketing, and so forth. Basically, if someone signs up to be your affiliate, they should not have to do anything but grab the materials you created and then use them in their marketing efforts. When you do this, you help control the content better, too, which helps keep your brand strong.

Work with Influencers

Even if an influencer promotes products that are your competitions’ products, it’s okay. You want to market to someone who likes these types of products. Leveraging influencers in this way will help you get more customers and reach new audiences.

Start a Joint Venture

You can work directly with your competitors, one-on-one, via joint venture efforts. You can both work on short term projects together, contributing your personal expertise to the project. For example, you can join to start a membership club or mastermind or group coaching effort. Be sure to define the duties of each in writing to avoid any issues working together.

Host a Niche Webinar

You can choose your competitors who are well-liked and known by the audience to speak at your next webinar event. Invite the five people you consider to be your competition after you’ve set up the topic and the rules of participation. Ensure everyone markets to their lists and allow them to sell their product at the end of their presentation with your affiliate link.

Create Branded PDF Reports

Another way to capitalize on your competition with content is to create PDF reports that promote your products and services that are complementary to your competitors, send it to them and offer them to brand it for themselves, include their affiliate link, and promote to their customers and followers.

Sign Up as Their Affiliate

If you want someone to promote you, the best way to ensure that they do is to promote them first. Find some of their products that fill the gaps of yours and start promoting them with vigor. If you do well enough, the competitor will notice and probably sign up for your affiliate program too.

Getting your competitors to promote you is not always simple, but the truth is, unless you both produce the exact same thing, you can differentiate yourself enough that there is room for both in the market.
