Welcome to Day 13 of the Using Social Media To Drive Traffic To Your Website Challenge!

One of the hottest things to hit Facebook or the net in a long time is Facebook Groups. Facebook Groups are micro-communities that members of Facebook can create for free and control who joins and participates. Groups give you a wonderful opportunity to find your tribe and drive traffic with Facebook Groups.

There are two ways you can use groups. Join groups that your audience enjoys, or create your own group that your audience will enjoy. In our opinion, you should do both. But notice the key. You want to join and create groups that your audience will hang out in, not colleagues.

If you’re a virtual assistant, for example, it’s fine and good to hang out with other VAs so that you can learn new stuff, but you’re not going to get clients that way. Instead, join groups that cater to the type of people you’d like to work with.

Be sure to follow the creator’s rules so that you don’t get kicked out, be a value to the members, and make sure they can see your personal profile which links to your business website and business page, so they can contact you if desired.

Let’s look at the two ways mentioned above deeper.

Create a Group for Your Audience

Creating a group is easy and free. Building the group can take a little more time. But, if you create a group, name it and use the keywords the audience would look for, create a detailed description of the group, and then use your page to advertise the new group.

You can create an open group, a private group, or a closed group. An open group means that the entire public can see the group, who is in it, and what they post based on their privacy settings. A private group means that people can see the members and the group, but they cannot read any of the posts within the group.

The best type of group to create is usually a private group. You’ll want to add content to it every day. Groups allow you to schedule content, so you can add it to your overall content planning and schedule the posts in advance. But, be sure to go back and engage with your users live with both text and video live events to help develop the know, like, trust factor even more.

Join Groups Where Your Audience Hangs Out

Even when you have your own group, join groups where your audience hangs out. One thing about Facebook is when you engage with people in a group, and you have a group, it’s likely that the members will see your group recommended to them in the sidebar, especially if they have friends in the group.

When you join other people’s groups, always read the rules before posting to it so that you don’t inadvertently break any rules. Most people have rules to cut down on the problem of spam. Spam is very high in some larger Facebook groups that don’t have enough monitoring. It’s okay because you can personally report and block the offenders so that the group becomes more useful to you.

You can find groups on Facebook for just about anything. These micro-communities offer tremendous opportunity for you to find influencers, make more connections, and communicate in a more intimate way with your audience. Groups are a win-win for everyone.
