Building resiliency into your business has as much to do with the business as it has to do with you. The more flexible you are in your personal life, the more positive you are about your situation. The more organized you are, the easier it is to be proactive instead of reactive, automatically increasing your resistance to loss at home and in your business.

Be Positive

Being positive isn’t about having a sunny disposition despite problems. It’s about being realistic and acting in accordance with your principles, morals, and values while seeking to meet the goals of your mission and vision for your business and your life. The more you study the data, put into practice expertise, and follow your plans, the more likely you will feel positive. Each thing really does build on the other.

Stay Focused

It’s easy to get your head turned by bright shiny objects when you’re focused on building your business. It’s hard to stick to one thing until it works out, but if you keep going from one thing to the next, you will not succeed, or if you do, it will be temporary. Instead, give yourself a time limit to focus on new things each month. For example, allow yourself to focus on new things just 5 or 10 percent of your work time so that you create limits on your free time to dream instead of act.

Create Flexibility

When you create schedules, add in resiliency by being flexible about the schedule but not about the task. For example, if you need to add 100 emails to your autoresponder by a certain date instead of creating short due dates for yourself, give yourself more time to get it done realistically based on your real-life and the real-time you have or don’t have.

Create Organization

Even if you’re not a naturally organized person, being organized in your business is essential to helping you become more resilient. However, you can create this organization within your cognitive ability to be organized. For example, if you know you’re always going to keep your laptop near your comfortable chair and not just do the work at your desk, it’s okay. This is not disorganization, it’s preference.

Become More Proactive

Learn how to study the industry, keep up with trends, engage with your customers and watch your competition to be more proactive with your choices. For example, if you learn through your research that the software you use will stop working soon, don’t wait until it stops working. Take the warning and find a new option to learn and start using as soon as possible while the current option still works.

Being resilient is really just about being realistic about your environment and making plans according to that truth. It’s true that you cannot plan for every single thing because there are things that can happen that no one can even imagine. After all, whoever thought a worldwide pandemic would happen? Well, the scientist did, but did you? Probably not, but now that it has happened, you can easily craft a plan in case it ever happens again.
